Some things money can’t buy

So the team got an ultra exclusive invite to a new happening little possie last week. Does Cape Town really really need another exclusive restaurant you say? Well, it is a restaurant, but oh so much more. Trendy little Chelsea village in Wynberg, will do well to keep this one a secret, but word travels like wildfire when superb is just not a good enough description.

The decor

She’s the talk of the local dinner club scene, and hostesses are just falling over themselves booking her for their intimate home functions. Of course we love and know her as bikerchick; but take off the lycra and throw her in a kitchen and surprisingly good results ensue. Her latest venture is definitely worth writing home (or here ) about.

I walked in to the venue and was immediately impressed by the floral arrangements and artworks on the walls. This is an important feature quite often neglected by our local eateries. It’s done well here partly because bikerchick is a girl with classic taste, but mainly because the venue is a florist/art studio during the daytime.
flowers, flowers, flowers

We were ushered to the private balcony which must be just a 5 iron from the open air theatre (time will tell, but we might need the 3). The hostess ploughed us with wine whilst she got beavering away in the kitchen. Whilst it is a set menu, one is not spoilt for variety – who knew things could be so yummy without adding salami, bacon and other meats? The potato frikkadelletjies where crunchy, yet juicy; the salad of white stuff, greenery and grapes had us fighting over the ladle and the pancake thingymajigs with mushrooms and other crap inside were a taste adventure par excellence.

Table for eight?
The winelist is the only area of concern, as it is a mishmash of pretty much whatever is on special at the Spar. Fortunately a sommelier with five years training in the winelands has been consulted and will be stepping in to order the drinking, which needs the good stuff/plonk sequence to be monitored (tough when the bottles are flying around like helium balloons).

All in all, two thumbs fully up and a repeat review is anticipated with fervent expectation
